To start off 2023, please join us for a discussion involving some crystal ball-gazing into the next 12 months, as our panel of speakers consider upcoming developments and share their keen insights on issues affecting clients and their planning structures and strategies, as well as wider trends affecting the local and global wealth and estate planning space.

Private client lawyers Sim Bock Eng of Wong Partnership and Vikna Rajah of Rajah & Tann will be joined by tax specialist Lim Kexin from PwC Singapore for this year-ahead outlook discussion, which may help all practitioners prioritise and make a focus of their practices in the coming months.

 About the Speakers

Kexin Lim 

Ms. Lim Kexin – Tax Partner, Entrepreneurial and Private Business, PwC Singapore

Over her dynamic 17-year PwC career, Kexin has advised leading Asian and global clients across a diverse range of tax matters. She works with leading entrepreneur-driven and owner-led / controlled groups from conglomerates, family offices, NextGens to start-ups in balancing their owner and business needs. Through a 3.5 years secondment to Jakarta, Kexin also stands out with her insights on the dynamic Singapore-Indonesia corridor.

Widely profiled in the media, award winning and a frequent public speaker, Kexin was the youngest Council Member in the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants’ history. She is a senior member of the Wealth Management Institute’s Global-Asia Family Office Circle, faculty member of WMI and the first alumni appointed on Singapore Management University's Board of Trustees.

Kexin graduated as SMU’s Valedictorian with a Bachelor of Accountancy, major in Law (summa cum laude) and is a Chartered Accountant (Singapore).

Ms Sim Bock Eng - Partner and Head - Specialist & Private Client Disputes Practice, WongPartnership LLP

Sim Bock Eng is the Head of the Specialist & Private Client Disputes Practice and a Partner in the International Arbitration, Banking & Financial Disputes and Private Wealth Practices. Her main practice areas are in private wealth and civil litigation, which include family, matrimonial law, succession trusts and probate law, banking and finance, property and employment. Bock Eng has over 20 years of experience in trust, estate and family laws – both front-end as well as litigation. She regularly advises ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families on succession and estate planning and business continuity. Bock Eng is the course co-ordinator for Probate in Preparatory Course Leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations. She is recognised as one of the leading probate, trusts and private wealth management lawyers in Singapore and has been involved in several landmark decisions.

Vikna Raja

Mr. Vikna Rajah – Executive Committee Partner & Head Tax – Trust & Private Wealth, Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP

Vikna is an Executive Management Committee Partner who is the Head of Tax & Trust and Co-Head of Private Client Practices at Rajah & Tann. He currently sits as the Chairman of the International Fiscal Association, Singapore Branch.  Vikna advises clients on complex income tax, GST, stamp duty, property tax and tax treaty issues and specialises in contentious civil tax disputes with IRAS, tax structuring and criminal tax litigation. Vikna is “Highly Regarded” in the “tax controversy” Practice area by ITR World Tax and has led R&T’s Tax Practice to clinch Singapore’s Tax Disputes and Litigation Firm of the Year by the International Tax Review.       

Vikna is also an acclaimed Trust & Private Wealth lawyer in Southeast Asia. He is regularly engaged to advise leading trust companies and ultra-high net worth families to create multi-generational trusts that address their succession planning needs, ensuring smooth transition of management and ownership of operating companies. Vikna has been named as one of the world’s Leading Experts in Private Client Practice by Who’s Who Legal and won “Private Client Lawyer of the Year” at The Asia Legal Awards.

About the Chairperson

Lionel Choi

Mr Lionel Choi - Managing Director, Head of Wealth Planning Singapore, LGT Bank (Singapore) Ltd

Lionel Choi is Head of Wealth Planning Singapore at LGT Bank. He has had close to 20 years of experience in assisting families locally and internationally on all aspects of succession and estate planning, having entered the private client wealth management industry as a wealth planning advisor for a major US-based financial institution. Prior to joining LGT, he led the Singapore trust company of a reputable global, bank-owned trust business as its resident director and manager. He specialised in establishing and administering trust and fiduciary structures. He was responsible for the operation and supervision of a client relationship team and managing private clients’ estate planning interests. He also took an active role in business development. Lionel began a career in law after graduating from the National University of Singapore with an LL.B (Hons) degree. He qualified as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore in 2000, practising in an international law firm. He also qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2003.

By completing the online registration form, Event registrants confirm their acceptance of the following Terms and Conditions: 

  1. Holding of the in-person Event is subject to the approval of any relevant government authorities, including the Singapore Tourism Board.
  2. Places to attend the Event in-person are limited and will be allocated by the Organisers based on various qualifying criteria (including COVID-19 risks) and in order of priority upon receipt of registration and all payments due.
  3. In-person attendees must abide by all COVID-19 safe management measures imposed by the Government, the Event venue and the Organisers.
  4. An individual is considered vaccinated if he/ she has been: a) fully vaccinated, i.e. has received the appropriate regimen of World Health Organisation Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) vaccines including their respective duration post-vaccination for the vaccine to be fully effective, and had their vaccination records ingested in MOH’s national IT systems ; or b) recovered from COVID-19 within the last 180 days.
  5. We reserve the right to refuse to register or admit any participant, and to cancel or postpone the Event.
  6. Equivalent substitute delegates are welcomed for Event, subject to the Organisers being notified at least 7 working days before the Event of the substitute delegate. Proposed substitute delegates for the Event must be notified to the Organisers at least 7 working days before the Event and the Organisers reserve absolute discretion as to whether to accept such substitute delegate based on the information provided.
  7. We will not entertain any request for a refund of fees. However, a confirmed registrant who has paid in full the event fees but does not attend to the event will be entitled to a set of the materials provided, if any.
  8. If you are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, we encourage you to perform self-testing. If you test positive, please do not attend the Event and contact the Organisers.
  9. Verification of COVID-19 Vaccination Status is not required for admission to the Event and Safe Management Measures do not apply as of 10 October 2022, based on prevailing national guidelines in Singapore. Should there be any updates from the Ministry of Health (Singapore) leading up to the Event, the Organisers will be in touch with further information. 
  10. Do note that, NO WALK-INS are permitted and anyone who has not been pre-registered for the event will be turned away.   
  11. Mask wearing is optional at all times during the Event.
  12. Please practice good personal hygiene, including frequent washing of hands.
