About this Seminar

The Common Reporting Standard (CRS) is now being implemented in stages, beginning this year. This seminar will discuss the challenges and opportunities that CRS presents to families with their private family funds and family offices. The focus of the discussion will be on Cayman Islands, the early adopter and Singapore, the second adopter. These two jurisdictions have compelling advantages for private family fund arrangement. The speakers will touch on the competitive and complimentary aspects of the two jurisdictions such as:

 About the Chairperson:

Ms Goh Seow Chee – Managing Director, Wealth Advisory Group at J.P. Morgan

Goh Seow Chee is a Managing Director of the Wealth Advisory Group at J.P. Morgan's Private Bank based in Singapore, which is dedicated to serving the international tax, trust, succession and strategic planning needs of our clients. She is responsible for the firm's Wealth Advisory practice and will be advancing the firm's efforts to develop customized and leading edge wealth planning products and solutions for clients.

About the Speakers:

Mr Richard Grasby –  Partner, Maples and Calder Hong Kong

Richard advises institutional trustees and private individuals on all areas of trust law and related private wealth issues. He also advises trustees, investment managers and investors on the establishment of investment funds, with a particular focus on unit trusts and private funds for wealthy individuals and families. He acts for trustees and settlors on the establishment and administration of private and charitable trusts and the establishment of private trust companies and family offices. He also acts in respect of estate planning and administration of estates. Richard regularly writes for industry journals and has spoken at several conferences in Asia.

Richard joined Maples and Calder in 2008 and was elected as a partner in 2014. He spent six months working in the Trusts group in the Cayman Islands office before moving to Hong Kong in 2009. Previously he worked as an attorney for a leading Cayman law firm in the Cayman Islands and before that, for SJ Berwin LLP in London. Richard is named as a leading lawyer on Citywealth's Leaders List and is recommended as a leading trusts lawyer in Legal 500.

Mr Desmond Teo - Partner, Financial Services Tax; International Tax Services, Ernst & Young, Singapore

Desmond is a Tax Partner within Ernst & Young (EY) FSO, focusing on Asset Management and International Tax. Desmond is one of the Asia Pacific FATCA tax leads, and is an integral part of EY's global FATCA network. Desmond focuses mainly on international corporate tax advisory engagements with a specialisation in the financial services arena.  With a working knowledge of transfer pricing, individual taxes, indirect taxes and transfer taxes, he offers holistic tax solutions to clients with global and regional presence, and provides clients with an end-to-end solution. In addition to helping clients set up of treasury centres and financing structures, Desmond’s experience also includes providing tax advisory services covering cross-border structuring, group restructuring, tax due diligence, merger & acquisition structuring, feasibility and implementation of fund structures.

He co-contributes tax write-ups to internal and external publications such as EY Singapore’s “You and the Taxman” publications, the Journal of International Taxation and the Business Times.
